Architectural Digest praised Chefchaouen’s blue-painted buildings for creating “a truly striking image,” making the city an irresistible attraction for tourists from all corners of the globe. This recognition reflects the city’s unique blend of simplicity and beauty, with its eye-catching blue facades offering a serene and cozy atmosphere amidst majestic natural landscapes.

A Celebrity-Favored Destination

Chefchaouen’s charm has not gone unnoticed by the stars. The city has been a holiday haven for numerous A-list celebrities, including Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern, who celebrated the release of Jurassic World in the blue city. Their visits have only added to the allure of this picturesque destination.

A Unique Palette

Despite its relatively simple color palette of blue, white, and yellow-orange, Chefchaouen has outshone many vibrant locales. It ranked higher than the USA’s multi-colored Georgian-style buildings on East Bay Street in Charleston, South Carolina, and even the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.

Global Competition

Poland’s Wroclaw, Istanbul’s old Jewish quarter of Balat, Curacao’s Willemstad, and Sweden’s historic center Gamla Stan in Stockholm also vied for spots on the list, but Chefchaouen emerged ahead of them. Meanwhile, Italy’s Cinque Terre claimed the top spot as the world’s most colorful place, with Indonesia’s Rainbow Village and Colombia’s colonial town of Guatape following close behind.

Explore the city and new places

Chefchaouen’s appeal extends far beyond its borders. In 2018, the city won the trophy for the best African intermediate city, and in 2019, it was recognized for having some of the most beautiful streets and alleys in the world. Recently, Chefchaouen was chosen as the backdrop for the new Louis Vuitton spring-summer collection, highlighting its efforts to preserve its heritage and natural beauty.
